Darcie / Amy,

I am just thinking outloud here, but how are we doing on keep this site open? Are we good on money? When are we going to start needing some donations?

Rebecca Statler Ellard

Darlene - sorry to hear about your loss - you are in my prayers!

On another note - the DVD should be done hopefully this week - after a catastrophy - I think I have it fixed! I had a computer malfunction - then I had to completely put the slide show in a different format - because it wouldn't work on the DVD in the PowerPoint that it was in (duh) so I have redone the slide show in Movie Maker - and I am in the works of putting it to DVD now!

Sorry it has taken so long! But it takes a while to make a GOOD Movie! LOL...

Jason (and others who have been asking)

I'll have to get with Amy and see when our subscription is up for this year (it is sometime this spring). We actually just got an email from the company stating that as of this past weekend, new groups using this software will now have to pay a subscription fee just to get their class sites up and running. Luckily, Amy found this site back in March or so, and we are grandfathered in. From what I understand, it will not become a "per person" fee (like classmates dot com or reunion dot com), just a group rate. All we will have to pay for is our domain name! So, Yea Amy!

If you happen to come across some other class sites, they may have some other bells and whistles that we don't have on our site. If we want any new extra features, we would have to pay the subscription fees on top of the domain name. Honestly, I haven't even looked into what the extras are.

My youngest's birthday party is at the end of this week, so all free time after work is going toward preparing for that. The price you gotta pay when your children have become cake snobs - I've created monsters and it's my own fault. LOL.

Anyway, give me a couple of weeks and we'll know more about web site status. I'll also go back and look at the survey results to see how everyone feels about how to handle the expenses of our site maintenance.

Actually, here are the results from that question on the post-reunion survey:

13) Latest quote shows it will cost about $25 a year to keep our site up like this. How long should we keep this site up and running?

33.3%
If we have any money left in the reunion fund, keep it up until we run out of money.

11.1%
Save reunion funds for the next reunion! Keep this site up until this year's contract runs out.

55.6%
Ask for classmates to pitch in money to keep site up as long as possible.

So, that's what your classmates said they want. Any comments/suggestions?

Is the paypal account still active for donations?

02/09/09 11:16 AM #234

Amy Gerdes Craig

Hey all!!!

OK, the domain name expires on 3/6/09.

It's about $20 to renew for one year... or $85 to renew for 5 years. If we could get some donations, i'd love to go the 5 years... so we dont' have to worry about it.

Yes, the classmate website is FREE to us.... the domain is just so we can type in www.calhoun88.com and get there... otherwise we'd have to type in 400 letters and numbers to get here. (well, not 400, but you get my drift!)

I'll check on the paypal, but as far as I know, yes, it's up. I'll put a "donations" thing on there for people who may want to donate... The "donation fund" will be for the domain and for next reunion. we started from nothing this time, and we got all the bills paid with pennies to spare... and I mean PENNIES... so...

I'll do better at keeping up with the message board. I haven't forgotten, I just - well, ok, I sorta forgot. :-) I'll try harder, I promise!!!

Oh, also... poor Rebecca is having a HELL of a time with that silly DVD project. she has one more attempt in her, then if it doesn't work out, she'll - well, she has a "plan B" -

So thanks everyone for your patience on it. I know it's been a long time waiting... we are all anxious to see it, but between her hardware failures and software glitches... she's doing her VERY best. Be assured.. you WILL get it, and it WILL be awesome. She has put her blood sweat and tears in to it.

~Amy

Posting a note from Darcie...

I think classmates.com is about $45 per year per person, and reunion.com is about $35 per year per person. Our site fees would be $20 per year for everyone on the whole site. (a one time charge per year!) Or $85 for 5 years. A helluva deal!

so guys... anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated!

02/10/09 02:12 PM #236

Darcie Shrader Henke

I wanted to double check those numbers. I was close. Classmates.com is $39 for one year, $59 for two years. Reunion.com is $60 for one year. And don't you love those annoying banner ads and 10 billion emails they send you?

For under $100 ($85 plus PayPal fees from collecting the donations), we can keep this web site just like we've got it for 5 years. That's the longest contract we can get right now.

We have to pay the renewal the first week of March.

Here is your challenge, classmates:

We need to raise $100 in two weeks.

(I feel like Sally Struthers here - cue the tears!) Can you pitch in $10, $15, $25 so we can keep the status quo?

I have a ticker on the front page so everyone knows the status of funds needed.

I don't know if anyone really keeps up with the message forum, but about 3 weeks ago Rebecca sent the DVD project to me (after I had to practically rip it away from her!) and I'm working furiously to finish it. I see now why she had SUCH an incredibly hard time with it. There are SO many pics we want in there... some great music... She really put ALOT of her hard work in to this... I'm currently burning it to DVD... trying to get them all done. It takes a long time.. so thanks everyone for your patience... Rebecca HATED giving it to me... but I think we got it... finally. Hopefully you'll have it before summer!!! (That's a little bit of a joke.. hopefully they'll start shipping in April)

Again, thanks for your patience......

~Amy

I have the DVD's back in my hands... I will put them in sleeves and Darcie is checking the Record again on who paid just to double check... But they will be sent out by April I promise!!!

Thanks Amy for Ripping it out of my hands lol and finishing it! I know you had hell with it too. But it is done! YAY....

We now know why it takes YEARS to produce a movie! LOL

Thanks for your patience! Hope you enjoy this for a long time!

Oh and THANKS to everyone who donated! We got enough to renew the site for 5 years!! We are trying to "pad" the account a bit so that we can get started next year without anyone having to pay for stuff out of their own pockets!! Again, THANKS GUYS!!!!!

Amy
PS - man I'm glad to be done with that DVD. It was very - um - not fun there for a while... but watching it afterward, it was all worth it. Man some of us were funny looking when we were young! :-) ha ha ha

Hi all and glad to be in touch with a lot of you FINALLY. If you will let me know where and how much, I will donate for the website or the padding.

Someone just let me know.

Are we looking at anything for 25 years? I have missed everything else and would like to plan on that.

Talk to you soon.

Darcie Shrader Henke

Happy Birthday, Belinda!

Michele, nice to hear from you. Donations of any amount are always welcome! There is a link on the home page to send your contribution to the class account.
